History
Bowers Jewelry, a family owned and operated business, has been growing each year since the doors opened in 1952. What began as a single showcase and workbench operation inside a small general store has grown into an expansive showroom with three expert jewelers, designers, and a highly skilled professional staff.
The original “Bowers Jewelers” store was opened in 1952 as a small counter and repair bench inside a general store in Huntington, Indiana. Ralph Bowers was the mastermind behind this new jewelry adventure, as he was forced to leave the railroad industry when polio took the use of his legs. Soon, he ventured into his own storefront location, and the business began to grow in jewelry sales, jewelry repair, and watch and clock repair.
Ralph’s wife, Geraldine, eventually joined him at the business. Their oldest son, Gene, and wife, Susie, began working in the early 1970s. Their younger son, Bob, also came to work at Bowers Jewelers in Huntington in 1970. Bob and his wife, Diana, worked at the original Bowers Jewelers in Huntington until 1983 when they opened a second location in North Manchester, Indiana.
After their son, Benjamin, completed full courses at the Gemological Institute of America in California to become a Graduate Gemologist, he joined his parents in the business. After a few more years, they decided to move their newly-independent store to Warsaw, Indiana, where Bowers Jewelry opened its doors in 1996.
Our Staff
Owners Bob and Diana Bowers remain active in the business management and sales. Their combined 70+ years of experience are called upon from day to day in so many areas. From watchmaker’s skills to financial oversight, Bob remains a vital part of the business. Diana’s knack for store layout and attention to detail keep the business running with impeccable style and a tidy, comfortable feel.
Benjamin Bowers, graduate gemologist and co-owner, functions as general manager and lead designer for the store. With more than 17 years of experience, Ben’s expert repairs and “from scratch” jewelry pieces are beautiful and flawless. Sketching jewelry designs is a true talent, and Ben enjoys bringing his creations to life. He individually selects every loose diamond we stock, hand-picks almost every color stone jewelry item, and has an incredible rapport with our customers.
Through the course of the past thirteen years, the family business has grown to include a staff of eight to ten people...
Son-in-law, Jim Bercik, joined the business in 1997 as goldsmith. In the past few years, he has become a trained CAD designer and has started the jewelry casting division of Bowers Jewelry. Jim’s attention to detail is unfaltering, and his computer savvy has been a strong asset in the area of custom design and day-to-day operations.
Michelle Koos, a mainstay at Bowers Jewelry, has worked with the family for more than 10 years as a successful sales associate and operates as inventory manager. She enjoys getting to know our customers, and has a knack for remembering names, faces, and wish lists.
Gwynne Cotton, youngest daughter of Bob and Diana Bowers, has been on staff as the financial operations manager and sales associate since she completed college and returned to the area in 2000. She manages the daily financial operations, oversees marketing, and enjoys creating new jewelry displays and maintaining the décor of Bowers Jewelry.
Cindy Fifer, also a long-time employee since 2001, is a dedicated, friendly sales associate. Customer service is her strong suit. She also manages our computerized engraving system and creates unique pearl jewelry designs, executes some jewelry repairs, among many other tasks.
Our newest addition to the Bowers Jewelry “family” is Eric Harman, a well-trained bench jeweler with technical training in many areas. His expertise is varied, but includes hand-engraving, wax carving, and micro-pave’ diamond setting. His creativity and skill-sets have been a great addition to Bowers Jewelry.
